When presidents take their oath of office they swear “to the best of my ability to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” That includes the 22nd Amendment, which says “No person shall be elected to the office President more than twice.” Therefore Former President Trump can be elected again since he won in 2016, and the facts show he lost in 2020. And yet he and an enormous number of his defenders claim that he actually won in 2020, saying that the election was stolen.
If he and his followers are delusional enough to truly believe they won the 2020 election then Trump and his followers are saying he was elected twice. According to the 22nd Amendment he can’t run again in 2024 if he was truly elected twice. Trump would be violating the oath he took in January 2017 as well as the Constitution. So why is this not an issue? Delusional or not, violating the oath he took over 5 years ago as well as the Constitution is not news or new information. He does it all the time and many of us have become, sadly, accustomed to it. It’s taken us 228 years going from a president who couldn’t tell a lie (Washington) to a president who can’t tell the truth. It’s time, as a country, that we move on and away from Donald Trump.
