Beloved Daughter, Mother, Sister and Friend~ Lacey Lee Godkin, born in Juneau September 6, 1984 died unexpectedly in a car accident on November 27, 2021.
Lacey spent several years in Montana as a youth attending Potomac Elementary school until she returned to Juneau in 1997 with her family. She attended Juneau Christian School and later moved onto graduating from Juneau Douglas High School.
Lacey was a vivacious young woman who enjoyed owning and operating her business, Capital Brew since early 2008. She loved the challenges of entrepreneurship as well as the connection it gave her to customers and community. Greeting them with a smile and a hot (or cold) beverage from their favorite barista gave her joy. It was her pleasure to support youth sports and community activities through business sponsorship over the years; giving back to the hometown she valued was an important part of her life.
Lacey became active in body building, which gave her confidence to attend the Arctic Muscle Fest competition in Anchorage 2017. She also supported friends and customers in local events; participating in community activities like the Wearable Art Extravaganza, where she was a model in the 2017.
Lacey’s most cherished accomplishment was being a mother to her three precious children. She loved spending time with them anywhere and everywhere; from the coffee shop to the beach to sporting events for her oldest son. Always showing them her love, support, and pride in their accomplishments. She was also an amazing aunt to her many nieces and nephews, who will forever remember her as the “fun” and loving aunt. Always willing to help friends, family or neighbors, her gentle and generous spirit will live on through all of us that treasure her life.
Lacey was preceded in death by her grandparents; Gerald Godkin, Roy Wills and David & Beverly Larson.
Lacey is survived by her children, Donavin McCurley, Ryker McCurley (Father of children Brett McCurley) and Letty Jo Herbert (Companion, Brandon Herbert). Her parents Jerry & Laurie Godkin, Victoria Godkin & Frank Balogh and Grandmother, Lorene Godkin. Siblings; Bridgette Andrew (Doug), Brandon Godkin (Alicia), Stefanie Bingham (Joe), Ryan Jensen (Teresa), Rena Kerby (Derek), Vanessa Kramer and Joseph Kramer. Aunts and Uncles; Sharon Dick (Paul), Mike Godkin, Dianne Godkin, David Calbaugh, Carol Stephens (Glenn), Patsy Hamilton, Royce Conlon (Jim), Roy Wills (Angie) Jennifer Messman (Andy) and Jason Wills (Amber). Nieces and nephews; Alexa Godkin, Matthew Godkin, Lorelai Bingham, Aria Jensen, Skyler Kerby, Kami Bingham, Kensi Jensen, Miles Godkin, Greyson Kerby, and Bella Godkin.
The family is immensely thankful for the outpouring of love and support from so many. Our hearts have been forever changed and despite our loss, the kindness and encouragement from the community of Juneau has been a gentle reminder that love, and hope live on.
Services will be held at Chapel By the Lake on Saturday, May 21st, at 1pm with a celebration of Lacey’s life and memories to be shared following the service.
