Here are the top three stories today in Anchorage:

  1. Mayor Dave Bronson is initiating Assembly approval for a Citizen Naming Panel to begin the process of renaming the Port of Alaska after late Congressman Don Young. Once convened, the naming panel will be responsible for holding public meetings, navigating code requirements, and making recommendations to the assembly. The memorandum will be introduced during today’s special assembly meeting. (Anchorage Press)
  2. Police have charged two men in connection with the death of a man found Sunday morning in Muldoon. Detectives identified two suspects, 39-year-old Adam D. Pringle and 44-year-old Daniel A. Rocero in the “suspicious” death; the victim’s name has not yet been released. Both Pringle and Rocero are currently jailed at the Anchorage Correctional Complex. (Anchorage Daily News)
  3. One week after mail-in ballots were sent out to Anchorage voters, the city’s election office reports that only 19 people have cast their ballots. When campaign volunteers went door-to-door reminding people to vote, multiple voters reported they have not yet seen their ballots. According to Must Read Alaska, up to 15,000 mail-in ballots are stuck in a post office in Washington. (Must Read Alaska)
